Book Club Vol. 1

Hi Guys! I’m really excited about starting this new series sharing all about the books I’m reading. Ever since graduating school where I hated reading, I’ve become the biggest book worm. (My inner introvert coming out). There is nothing better than snuggling up with a blanket or relaxing in the bath with a good book. I’ve had a lot of people ask me for recommendations so I decided to start sharing them here. There is no theme or genre, each month I’ll simply feature a few of my favorite books.

For the first month I thought I would kick it off with BANG !!

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.

About the Book :

This book is all about creative living beyond fear. Elizabeth dives into her unique perspective about the mystery of creativity & how we receive inspiration. She explains how to overcome fears that might be standing in the way between you & your wildest dreams. You will feel the magic in your toes from reading this book. The 2,378 Amazon reviews, coming in at a solid 4.6 stars, speak for themselves.

About the Author :

You may recognize Elizabeth Gilbert from her hit Eat. Pray. Love. I guarantee if you haven’t read the book, you’ve definitely seen the movie. It’s another one of my personal favorites.

N E X T U P // GIRL, STOP APOLOGIZING by Rachel Hollis.

About the book :

GIRL, Stop Apologizing is going to be one of the books I will read and reread multiple times. Her cute quirky personality is hysterical. She shares her insight on chasing your goals & reaching your full potential. No more worrying about what other will think or not.

About the Author :

Rachel Hollis is a media mogul. She started her business with a high school diploma and google search bar as she says. You probably recognize her from the cult following she has created with her first book Girl, Wash Your Face.

Getting & Staying Inspired

I’ve had people ask me before how I stay motivated & for me motivation & inspiration go hand in hand. If I’m feeling inspired the motivation follows to deliver the things I need to get done. There are my fool proof ways to get or remain inspired.

1 // Find an inspiring place and visit it often. This could be a quite corner of the house, a specific coffee shop or park. For me this is anywhere I can see the sun setting or my favorite street of fancy houses that I want to live in one day.

2 // Make a playlist. I truly believe music is one of the most powerful things in the universe. The way a song can make you feel and empower you. Nothing makes me feel more on top of the world that when I am screaming the words to my favorite song at the top of my lungs. My playlist includes songs like One Man Can Change the World by Big Sean & 7 Rings by Ariana Grande.

3 // Get rid of distractions whatever those may be for you. Turn off the TV, put down the cell phone, & if you need to get out of the house and go into the office to keep your focus DO IT.

4 // Read a book. When I’m feeling like I need a reminder of why I’m pushing for the things I want I pick up one of my favorite books and even reading a chapter will make me feel better. There are so many great books out there and a different one might speak to you but once you find it, keep it close.

5 // Listen to inspiring words of others. Find yourself a podcast, youtube video or ted talk that really resonated with you & save it to your favorites in your web browser so you can pull it up whenever needed.

6 // Visualization. I do this 2 ways. One is laying down in a quite room and closing my eyes while I envision my perfect life. What it looks like, the kind of things I can do and the people around me. I picture every single detail. It can be as crazy as you want. If you want to buy the most expensive bag in the Louis Vuitton store PICTURE IT. If you want to spend 2 weeks in Hawaii PICTURE IT. The second way I do this is by sitting & looking at my vision board, more details on a vision board here.

7 // Make sure you are taken care of first. If I’m feeling really stressed out or overwhelmed I’m never in the right head space to be doing anything creative. Self care is so important. Go to the gym, get a massage, take a bath or just zone out for awhile if you need to.

8 // Take a break & try something new. The world is a great place to find inspiration. Traveling is a huge one for me, but if you don’t have the time or funds head to a new restaurant or part of town.

9 // Surround yourself with the people who make you better & inspire you. These people should believe in your as much as or even more than you do. They are positive influences and will humor every crazy idea you have. I cannot stress enough how selective you should be with who you spend you time with.

I hope this helps you if you’re feeling stuck in a rut or like you’ve hit a plateau. Keep pushing! “Most things have been done, but they have not yet been done by you.” – Quote from Big Magic, my favorite book by Elizabeth Gilbert.

  2. My new favorite lipgloss in the color creme brûlée & its $3.69 at Target.
  3. I’m SO excited to share this Protein Water. YES!! Protein water. I absolutely hate protein shakes, but these… these are AMAZING. 60 calories. 0 sugar. 15g protein. Depending on the flavor the protein is 10-15 grams. I got the variety pack with 15g.

  10. This Tommy Tee is so cute, it could even work for the 4th of July that isn’t so 4th of July.
  11. Gingham and tie front, this shirt is a winner.
  12. Might need one more swimsuit to get thru the summer, this striped lace-up front one piece will do.

Websites :

Love all the cute clothes on vicicollection.com. They always have a 20% discount going on & you can find the code on their Instagram but really they already have great prices!

Going through a home decor obsessed phase so I’ve been spending a fair amount of time on crateandbarrel.com.

Reading :

I read 2 books by Shari Lapena and both were SO GOOD. I’ve been into mystery thrillers lately and I couldn’t put either one of these down. I read A Stranger in The House and The Couple Next Door.

To the girl who loves more..

This post is a little different from my typical posts about make-up or fashion and I hope that’s okay. I felt inspired to write this post dedicated to girls out there who feel just like me. The girls who always feel like they love more. I can’t tell you that I have found the guy who was worth the wait and heartbreak, but I can tell you he is out there.

To the girl who is still with him:

You’re worth more than this. You deserve better. You might not see it now, but you will one day. I’ve been in that place where I accepted less than I deserved. I always knew I wasn’t getting what I wanted from my relationship, but people have a way of making you feel crazy. Like you’re asking for too much. Respect, love, even assurance are all important things. Everyone has a different love language. No one deserves to be with someone who makes you question your worth or what you mean to them. The right guy will constantly be reminding you. He will not put himself in a place where he could possibly lose you because he can’t bear the thought of living without you. You are strong enough to leave and it will be worth waiting for the right one. I promise you are worth it and you CAN find it. You deserve to be happy.

To the girl in the dating scene:

The dating scene can be one of the most frustrating things. People will waste your time and play games while you are looking for something more, something that’s real and will last. You always put everything into everyone else and that’s what makes you so special. Do not forget that. No matter how people make you feel it doesn’t make you weak, it makes you strong. You have this incredible ability to love and feel. The right person is going to see you for exactly who you are. They will see the value of a good heart. When you find someone who wants to try, don’t hold back or hold things against them because of your past. Give them everything you’ve got because you only have one life and one chance. This love you’re looking for will find you and it will be too good to let someone who didn’t see your value spoil it for you.

To the girl who isn’t ready to date yet:

Until you find something that is worth your time focus on yourself. Put that energy you put into others back into yourself. When the one you’ve long been waiting for comes, you have to be ready. Knowing yourself first is very important because you can’t love someone else if you don’t truly love who you are. A wise woman once told me in order to be loved you must first be lovable. Find that girl. Love that girl. Prepare yourself to be a good girlfriend, wife, or mother. Whatever you want to be, you have to grow into that person. Read books, study things that interest you and most of all set goals for yourself. I have taken cooking classes, travelled to new places and spent hours at the gym. Discover new things about yourself. He will see you doing your thing and he will come.

Remember, what is meant for you will not pass you by. Look for the good if you are struggling, you will find it. Look for the bad and you will find it.
