What’s in my make-up bag? : Drugstore Edition II

My last drugstore beauty post was a huge hit so I decided to test out a few more products to see if I could find anymore hidden gems in the drugstore beauty category & I did! Honestly after testing out so many products I think the drugstore beauty world doesn’t get enough credit. You can find awesome products for half the price a lot of the time. These brands are killing it. I also noticed at my local Ulta recently they’re completely re-doing the drugstore make-up side and adding/removing brands so maybe there is just a growing popularity and increase in quality right now.

1 // L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Foundation

I have really loved this foundation probably a little bit more than the other drugstore foundations I’ve tried recently. The L’oreal foundation comes with a pump unlike a lot of others in the same category which I find to be a lot cleaner and easier. When I first applied this foundation I was shocked at the coverage. A little goes a LONG ways. It goes on smoothly & has SPF 15. There is a smell that I like & fades but smells a little bit cologne-y. It was a tad bit drying but is great if you have oily skin. I think this will be a great option for summer for anyone.

2 // Maybeline Master Chrome Highlight

I’ve heard so much about this product & I have to say it lives up. When I first applied it I couldn’t see it but girl I was just hitting the light in the wrong angles because when I tilted my head I was blinded. I have found my new go-to!

3 // Milani Blush – Luminoso

Again – I wanted to test out this blush because I had heard so much about it. Researching is really turning out well for me because I loved this one as well. With my pale complexion this gives a peachy appearance on my skin. It is very pigmented & gives me all the flirty vibes.

4 // Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer

This concealer is amazing for everyday, it’s comparable to Tarte’s Shape Tape that I swear by but I don’t think the coverage is quite as full. It is a really great bang for your buck though, the raving reviews online speak for themselves. One thing to note about this concealer is that you must set it right away to avoid under-eye creasing.

5 // ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick – Trap

I’ve been using ColourPops liquid lipsticks for awhile and my favorite has to be the color Trap. They don’t flake off & last for hours! I will say when you’re picking colors online the color it looks like in the tube and the color it is on your skins always seems to be darker for me.

What other products have you guys been wondering about or heart tons of chatter about?! Let me know & I’ll include it in my next drugstore post!

What’s in my Make-up Bag? : 2018 Update

I know I normally only post about one product but there is a few I want to share to get up to date again.

FIRST,

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Shadow Palette. I know I’m late to the game here but this palette actually changed my life. I’m sure you’re thinking yeah yeah another shadow palette. I would trade every shadow palette I have for this one. I will never use another make-up palette if I can help it. They are INSANELY pigmented. I have to use the tiniest bit of product to do my shadow everyday. These colors are perfect for brown eyes, but they would look amazing on any eyes. The colors are cohesive but different enough to make so many different looks.

NEXT,

The perfect pink lipstick. Finding a pink lipstick that has the perfect undertones to not make my teeth look yellow is so hard (a continual struggle). The formula is so creamy but is matte which I love. I have a few retro matte lipsticks that dry my lips out SO BAD, but this formula is a lot more moisturizing. (it’s called REALLY ME if the link doesn’t pull the correct color).

FINALLY,

The biggest game changer of all. Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder!! Wow. I apply this under my eyes and in my T Zone in the morning with a damp beauty blender and it lasts ALL DAY. I don’t get oil break through as the day goes on and it gives my skin a flawless smooth look. This is definitely busy body approved because I will go hours without looking at myself in the mirror and I don’t get scared when I finally see my reflection.

I want to finish off this post by talking a little bit about the New Year. There are so many resolutions to choose from, but this year the one that I chose is to conquer my fears. To be brave. To take every opportunity that presents itself. I’ve been debating jumping out of a plane, but we’ll see if it actually happens. You don’t have to wait until a New Year to change. You have the power to change at any time. To take the world by storm and make it your own. My story is TO BE CONTINUED…

Beauty Tip : Plump Lip Hack

I unintentionally found this hack while using a lip exfoliator from E.L.F. I originally bought it to help my lipstick go on smoother. I use it 3-4 times a week and have noticed a HUGE difference in the size and plumpness of my lips. This exfoliator is THREE dollars. It keeps your lips looking and feeling so soft. It’s not too messy because it comes in lipstick form and really scrubs off the dead skin. I purchased mine from Target, but it is also available at Ulta and it has a 4.5 star rating! I use the clear one because it has big exfoliating sugar grains. For the price I think it’s good. It’s not going to plump your lips up like $800 lip injections would, but I love this and will continue to use it. The exfoliator is also cruelty-free which gives you even more reason to try it out!

What’s in my Make-up Bag? : Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

Awhile ago I posted that I was looking for the perfect nude lipstick that was super light and didn’t cast weird hues and I finally found it! I tried ABH Liquid Lipstick and not only did I fall in love with the color, but also the formula. This lipstick is SOOO crazy long lasting. I wore it out on girls night to The Cheesecake Factory and it lasted through an appetizer, entree (which was a burger might I add) and even looked perfect after dessert. It’s say smudge-proof but really no matter how had you tried you couldn’t mess it up. Matte liquid lipsticks are supposed to be a dry formula, but it wasn’t drying if that makes sense. I’ve tried a few lipsticks that actually make my lips feel constricted because they’re so drying and then they start to crack. This wasn’t like that AT ALL! It feels so smooth and nice. After trying it I logged onto Ulta to see all the colors they have (which are all so pretty) and there was so many good reviews. The color I used is called Milkshake, but I will definably be purchasing more!

Top 10 Most Asked Beauty Questions Answered

1. Why do some lipsticks make my teeth look extremely yellow?

Lipsticks like any other make-up product has colored hues. If the hues aren’t great for your skin tone a lot of times you end up with yellow looking teeth even if they’re normally white! Warm-tones cast a yellow based hue onto you’re teeth while a blue hued lipstick will cast cool-tones making your teeth look whiter!

2. How often should I wash my make-up brushes?

You should wash your make-up brushes AT THE LEAST once every month to ensure you are using clean brushes and not distributing dirt and bacteria. If you are using your brushes more often they get a lot of build up, wash them every 2 weeks!

3. Do face primer’s actually work?

Most primers are made with silicone which acts as an adhesive to hold your make-up in place and make it less likely to smear or smudge. Just like painting your walls you need a base coat to help your make-up stay. It can also fill in fine lines and absorb oils! If you feel like yours isn’t doing anything, do some research and try a new one.

4. How do I contour my face?

I know it seems like a scary task to learn, but it’s actually pretty simple if you imagine a light above your face. The places that are shadowed you contour while the places that shine you highlight. Most people already have a bronzer or a color that is slightly too dark for their skin. I start at the top of my ear and brush in towards my mouth and nose angling slightly down going just below my cheek bones. Remember to use only a little product at first and build up, once you have too much product it’s hard to get rid of it, but you can always add. I then brush the top of my forehead along my hairline. Make sure everything is well blended harsh lines are not your friend.

5. How should I layer my skincare products?

Lucky for you I created a post specially for this question. In a quick summary cleanser, exfoliator, toner, spot treatments, serums, eye creams, moisturizer, SPF.

6. I only have 5 minutes to get ready, what can I do that will make the biggest difference?

My biggest problem is my dark circles. Concealer is everyones best friend and my number one favorite that I cannot go without. Next is a quick touch up on the brows. I brush and fill them in quickly (not perfect sharp edges). Mascara can completely change your look and cannot be forgotten! Finally is the perfect pout. That pop of color gives you the finishing touch.

7. Eyes or Face First?

Most people will tell you to do your eyes first and then do your face because of fall out, but I have a very specific routine. I don’t do my eyes first because I like to brush a little foundation onto my eyelid because mine are extremely red and I love the edges of my shadow to look really blended. First I do my foundation, then my eyes. If any fall out happens this is where you can brush it off and finish with concealer, contour, and setting powder.

8. How do I make my hair grow faster?

  • The first thing is your DIET! Your diet reflects in your hair, skin, and energy levels. It is so important to feed your body nutritious food.
  • Do less with your hair (styling, products, shampooing, and coloring).
  • Massage your scalp to stimulate blood circulation.
  • Loosen tight hairbands.
  • Get regular trims.
  • Supplements can be a huge help something with biotin and anti-oxidants.

9. How to do a dutch braid?

Here is the video I used to learn! It’s actually quite easy and very similar to a french braid.

10. How to remove gel nails?

I soak my nails in acetone to remove them, I prefer not to file them off because it ends up filing my natural nail and makes it thin and brittle.

The Perfect Lipstick Application

Lipsticks in general are always going to be a trend, but they’re majorly big right now in liquid form. I know we all want the perfect application for lipstick, but a big step I think a lot of people miss is exfoliating your lips! Chapstick or lip balm isn’t enough to keep your lips silky smooth, they need to be exfoliated to remove dry skin and dead cells. Thus my first step to getting the perfect lipstick application every time.

  1. Start with exfoliating. There are a bunch of lip exfoliators out there, but I use a cheap e.l.f. one I got from Target  for only $3 and it does a good job (I’ve also heard great things about Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Lip Scrub.)
  2. Moisturize. Make sure you’re applying a chapstick regularly to keep your lips kissably soft. Before lipstick, I apply a small amount of Burt’s Bee’s Lip Balm to my lips to “prime” the area if you will. You only need enough to make your lips feel a bit tacky. (If you use a lot of a slippery chapstick the lipstick won’t go on well).
  3. Line your lips! Lipstick looks SO MUCH BETTER when you line your lips. It gives you a crisp fine line. I start by drawing an X on my cupids bow and work my way down and around. Then I fill in a little on the edges and right in the center to help blend it out so you don’t get a crazy line. (DISCLAIMER: If you want to over line your lips only do so towards the top and bottom not the corners of your mouth because you can see where your mouth ends and it will look weird if you draw too far beyond the edge).
  4. APPLY THE LIPSTICK! Start with the edges and move in to the center. Some people use a lip brush, but if it already comes with a wand I will just use that.

TA-DAA! Now you know how to perfectly apply your lipstick every single time!!

What’s in my Make-Up Bag? : The Perfect Nude Lip

I’ve been searching for the perfect matte nude liquid lipstick and I haven’t been able to find it yet, but I did find the perfect creamy nude lipstick color from MAC! I have a hard time finding pinky nude color lipsticks because with my skin tone they all seem to look more orange that I like, but this one doesn’t. It’s called FLESHPOT, a pale-muted pinky beige satin lipstick. I wear this color every single day now!
